Liff
Liff AI and your safety
What Liff AI is, the rules it always follows, and what Liff does when someone may be at risk.
What Liff AI is
Liff AI is the AI inside Liff. Some Things use it while you use them: to chat with you, write, make quizzes, play a part in a game or read a photo you give them.
It is an AI, not a person. It says so if you ask, and Liff reminds you when a chat starts and every 3 hours while it goes on. It can get things wrong, so don’t rely on it for medical, legal or financial advice, or in an emergency.
Rules it always follows
Liff adds its own rules to every request, before a Thing’s instructions, and nothing a Thing or a person types can change them. Liff AI:
- never says or suggests it is a person, even when a Thing gives it a character to play;
- never writes sexual content;
- never helps anyone hurt themselves or others;
- is supportive and practical about health, money and the law, never diagnoses or gives medicine doses, and suggests a professional when it matters.
Liff won’t make Things that use AI as a romantic or sexual partner, have AI present itself as a child, or have AI act as a doctor, therapist, lawyer or other licensed professional.
If someone may be at risk
Liff looks for words about suicide or self-harm in what people write to Liff AI. When it finds them:
- Liff shows a message over the Thing with a crisis line for your country, such as Samaritans in the UK and Ireland (116 123) or the 988 Lifeline in the US, and a link to more places to get help. Your phone picks the line from its own region, which never leaves your phone.
- Liff AI steps out of any character, answers with care, and encourages you to reach someone now.
- That reply never counts against your AI replies.
Liff AI follows the same rule in any language, even where Liff’s own check doesn’t find the words.
We count how many times this happens each day across all of Liff, without the words or who it was, so we can report on it as the law asks. We don’t keep what was written.
If you or someone else is in danger right now, call your local emergency number.
Reporting a reply
In a Thing that uses Liff AI, open its sheet and choose Report, then A reply from Liff AI. We read every report and act on it. You can also write to us at support@glassly.dev.
